Responsibilities
Receiving general direction from the Security Operations Manager, the CSO provides leadership in support of all processes to ensure the protection of Dana Farber employees, hospital and property, proprietary information, reputation and brand and regulatory compliance. This position represents security by promoting the hospital strategies, which support the systematic use of partnerships and problem solving techniques, to proactively address the immediate conditions that give rise to safety issues and concerns, such as crime, patient disorder, and fear of crime and provide feedback information to facility security management.
- Patrols the hospital, with special focus on the outpatient areas and independently seek out and engage the staff with the purpose of creating security awareness, providing educational information and identify opportunities to build workplace comfort and confidence.
- Provides technical guidance on security related policies and procures within and between units and other teams.
- Gathers relevant information and feedback, compare and contrast data, identify relationships and predict and manage failures is critical.
- Champions new initiatives, collaborating with team members and other teams, and keeping abreast of new facility policies and regulations. Some examples of offering guidance will include but are not limited to; reiterating the hospital badge policy, panic alarms, cameras, access control, how to call for help and security escorts, All questions are to be answered in person before the end of the shift,
- Records and reports all actions, feedback and outcome information to facility management by the end of the shift. Brings all maintenance related security issues to the attention of Facilities or security systems immediately.
- Responsible for conducting and maintaining monthly security system's inspections, such as panic buttons, intercoms, safety inspections within the department, critical emergency doors and facility hazardous safety inspections. All information is to be recorded and reported to facility management by the end of the shift. During panic alarm testing, encourage staff to get involved in the testing.
- In support of security management, identifies significant security risks, designs and implements strategies and programs to prevent and reduce loss of the organization's assets.
- Anticipates process partner needs and gives high priority to process partner satisfaction and service. Develops collaborative relationships and provides expertise, technical guidance, and training to interface interdependencies within assigned facility processes.
- Coordinates and manages preventative programs and services to protect against disruptions in a cost-effective manner. Assist in the research and deployment of technical solutions to safeguard corporate assets, most importantly, Dana Farber employees.
- Conducts and maintains Quality Control Audits on Facility Security Program to include but not limited to training records, life safety system inspections.
- Performs standard assignments that require some interpretation of data and regulations, identification of problem sources, and possible remedial actions.
- Identifies and evaluates the impact of security risk.
- Identifies existing and potential security problems.
- Participates in developing corrective measures.
- Leads in processes to ensure conformance to security standards.
- Leads management system for security functions.
- Participates on teams to ensure conformance with security standards.
- May require an emergency response when instructed by Security Command Staff if the incident is in the immediate vicinity.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Degree in criminal justice or related field preferred. A combination of relevant experience and education will also be considered.
- 3 years of security or public safety; 5 years in security or public safety in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Must submit to and pass an initial and annual criminal background check.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must obtain and maintain required certifications in the following programs (training provided by department):
- CPR/AED/First Aid
- Narcan (Naloxone) Training
- AVADE/HDTS De-Escalation Training
- International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) Basic Officer Certification (within first 90 days)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Multi-language skills a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Proficient with the operation of office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
- Demonstrated customer service, communication and risk assessment skills.
- Strong risk analysis and organizational skills.
- Ability to gather relevant information and feedback, compare and contrast data, identify relationships and predict and manage failures.
- Ability to handle complex interpersonal situations and work independently.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports and routine correspondence.
- Ability to exercise judgment and make decisions as to appropriate actions under pressure in accordance with rules and regulations.
- Reliable and flexible.
